Leroy Sanborn, a graduate of the Shepherd's House, took up running in the late 90’s and after many successes in running - like running the the Boston Marathon twice - Leroy persuaded the Shepherd’s House to start the Run for Recovery in 2000. It was LeRoy’s way of giving back to the Shepherd’s House and the community. Leroy was a wonderful example of a restored life with help from the Shepherd’s House.
Many of Lexington and Central Kentucky’s running clubs will be represented. Many of our participants are local runners or walkers, who just come out to enjoy a leisurely run or walk. Many people bring their children and we are pet friendly. So, please come on out - support recovery in Central KY. The proceeds allow many men and women, who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity, to come to the Shepherd's House and begin their road to recovery.
